Gert-Jan Akerboom

Gert-Jan Akerboom (Netherlands) Residency: May, 2015

Akerboom is a Dutch artist based in Berlin, Germany. He got his bachelor in fine arts at Willem de Kooning Academie, Rotterdam. His work has been shown in the Netherlands, UK, Germany, Thailand, USA, Norway and Japan.

Akerboom mixes old and new drawing techniques to represent ideas, which he gets from his research of science and culture. In topics such as astronomy, mathematics and history, he seeks for ideas, not necessarily for answers.

Akerboom presented an installation with Hannah Reber in Studio Kura titled “Nami Multifraktal” at the end of their residence.
Nami Multifraktal is endorsed by the Embassy of the Netherlands and the German Embassy.

Akerboom and Reber also organized an exhibition at Art Space Tetra in Fukuoka, showing art from 5 German artists including themselves.
