Announcing Darae Baek’s Exhibition “EXISTENCE OR REFLECTION”

We are pleased to announce an exhibition EXISTENCE OR REFLECTION by Darae Baek, as a result of her activity during her stay at Studio Kura on March 25 (Sat) & 26 (Sun).

Darae Baek (b. 1989) is a visual artist based in London and Seoul, Korea and She is specialised in performing and Video installation. She completed her Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins and is planning to start for Master of Fine Art at Glasgow School of Art in 2017.
She finds the keywords of stories in the nostalgia of the past that she feel in new places. The moment she feel such reverberation of the past, the “new place” no longer holds the meaning that only new places can keep in as it gets easily absorbed by the nostalgia which transcends time and space.

Here are some words from the artist herself.

Is there a secret existence that hides in this peaceful landscape and beautiful ringing sounds?

I meet mysterious fear in Itoshima. When I look at my figure reflected in mirrors or windows with the smell of faded wooden buildings and the sound of Tatami sometimes deprives of my real sense and brings an imagination about other existences. This video is about the imagination of the existence that I have felt in Itoshima.
