Announcing Laurence O’ Toole’s Exhibition “Understanding”

We are pleased to announce an exhibition Understanding by Laurence O’ Toole, as a result of his activity during his stay at Studio Kura on April 22 (Sat) & 23 (Sun).

Laurence O’ Toole is a self taught artist who has been following a career in oil painting since he was a child. He has had many solo exhibitions and group shows in Ireland and abroad. Having represented Ireland in fine art, he has been awarded accolades through out his career. His work can be found in many collections, both public and private, in Ireland and abroad.
His work focuses on the human condition, the “why” we do things and the “how” they effect us, while constantly trying to illustrate the spirit through a narrative that is both clear and yet intriguing. He has an ability to strip back the painting to the raw narrative and then sometimes finish pieces to a high degree of realism.

Here are some words from the artist himself.

My work deals with the narrative of life, it teases out the story of why we do what we do, how we connect and why we don’t. I am constantly trying to illustrate the human spirit and find myself interested in our spirituality, or a spirituality that comes from our very existence, our connection and our place, in this world. I find myself now concentrating on what is important in my work, the narrative , the movement, the colour, the core of the piece and the soul. It’s the meaty issues that effect us all and I try and illustrate these, all the while , trying to arrive at something beautiful
