Announcing Hiroka Yamashita’s Exhibition “the Swimmer / the Sleeper”

We are pleased to announce an exhibition the Swimmer / the Sleeper by Hiroka Yamashita on August 25 (Sat) & 26 (Sun), as a result of her activity during her stay at Studio Kura.

Born in1991, Hyogo, Japan, Hiroka Yamashita is a New York-based painter.
Yamashita has painted based on the observation of the life, folktales, and memories.
By addressing both traditional Japanese and Western painting methods, her work is picturing “ephemerality” and one’s perception of a mind with awe of nature or the fear of something we can’t see or predict. She graduated from School of Visual Arts, NY in 2016, and had a solo exhibition in Osaka, Japan in 2017. Currently in MFA program in Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers, NJ.

Here are some words from the artist herself.

These works are based on the day that the artist went to Yokosuka to see works of a painter, Koji Nakazono, and her experiences in Itoshima later.
