Announcing Lyubov Matyunina’s Exhibition “Spirited away”

We are pleased to announce an exhibition Spirited away by Lyubov Matyunina on June 22(Sat.) & 23(Sun.), as a result of her activity during her stay at Studio Kura.

Lyubov Matyunina is specialised in moving image, textile and masks and based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. She holds BA in Fine Arts from Gerrit Rietveld Academy (Amsterdam) and Master’s degree in Journalism from BFU (Russia). Her solo show Carpetologia was presented at W139, Amsterdam (2017). Her film-carpet was part of the ART Rotterdam 2018; “Who can be happy and free?” (2014) and got TENT Academy Public Choice Award in Rotterdam (2014). Participant of group exhibitions and festivals including “Post Peace” at Württembergischer Kunstverein Stuttgart (2016); 5’th Moscow biennial of contemporary art (special project Plaing Nature) (2013) and others.

Here are some words from the artist herself.

Project “Spirited away” is a tribute for the Japanese folklore, attempt to rethink the past and create a contemporary Yokai.
I am researching and investigate the stories and legends about Yokai in the Fukuoka region, but also creating my own Yokai based on the contemporary lifestyle of the region.

Date: June 22 (Saturday) and 23 (Sunday), 11:00 to 18:00.
* We will hold an artist talk on 22nd (Sat.), starting at 16:00.
* The exhibitions by other five current residence artists will be held at the same exhibition periods.
