We are pleased to announce an exhibition “Moments”(Responding to the landscape, as experienced in the moment) by Brendan Sarsfield July 24(Sat.) & 25(Sun.), as a result of his activity during his stay at Studio Kura.
Brendan Sarsfield is an artist and art educator, originally from Liverpool in the UK, he is currently based in Tokyo.
Although trained as a sculptor, more recently he has been involved in making use of the printmaking studios at Yokohama Museum of Art, where he has been exploring printmaking techniques as part of a mixed media drawing process.
The resulting combination of exploratory collaged, lithographic, cyanotype and silk screen work, has led to regular involvement in a number of art, drawing and print exhibitions both in Japan and internationally. With projects ranging from decals for a streetcar in an Oklahoma Art festival, through to artist sketchbook projects and awards at international printmaking exhibitions.
Moments stay with us. When fully present, we embrace the moment.
Moments echo in our minds, unexpectedly arriving to greet us like old friends. We cherish moments and re-visit them through memories, through photographs and through reminiscing with those who shared the moment with us.
The artwork in this exhibition, represents moments; observed, experienced and encountered in the landscape.
Like a moment, much of the work may seem ephemeral, marks made on paper, quickly captured. Representational and abstract side by side, each probing into the moment, visualizing a pause in time, an interval in both spatial and temporal realms.
