Helen Zhuが２ヶ月の滞在期間中に制作した絵画作品を展示します。
入場料は無料です。

Helen Zhu（2000年生まれ、オーストラリア、リバプール出身）は、ダラワールの土地に住み、作品を制作している中国系オーストラリア人アーティストです。ヘレンは、ナショナル・アート・スクールで絵画を専攻し、美術の学士号を取得しました。
ヘレン・朱の作品は、西洋の美学である抽象表現主義と中国の伝統的な書道の要素を取り入れています。朱の作品は、彼女の個人的なディアスポラ（ディアスポラ）体験に基づくものです。東洋と西洋の両方の影響を受けて育った朱は、常に自分の文化的アイデンティティに疑問を抱いていました。 ヘレン・朱は、周囲に溶け込むために自分の中国的背景を否定し始め、その結果、罪悪感や断絶を感じるようになりました。
朱は、西洋の抽象画であるテクヌイークとカリグラフィーのエネルギーを組み合わせることで、文化的アイデンティティとの複雑な関係を明らかにしている。書道の抽象化は伝統的な芸術形式を現代化し、帰属意識を見出そうとする朱の絶え間ない不安を生々しく、力強く表現しています。

Helen Zhu (b.2000, Liverpool, Australia) is a Chinese Australian artist who lives and creates work on Dharawal land. Helen received her Bachelor’s in Fine Arts at National Art School, majoring in painting.
Helen Zhu’s practice incorporates the Western aesthetic of abstract expressionism with elements of traditional Chinese calligraphy. Zhu’s works investigate her personal experiences of diaspora. Growing up surrounded by both Eastern and Western influences, Zhu has always found herself questioning her cultural identity. Helen Zhu began to reject her Chinese background in order to ‘fit in’ with the rest, resulting in feelings of guilt and disconnection.
Zhu reveals her complex relationship with her cultural identity as she combines Western abstraction teqnuiqes with calligraphic energy. The abstraction of calligraphy modernises the traditional art form, creating a raw and powerful representation of Zhu’s constant anxiety to find a sense of belonging.
During her 2 month stay in Itoshima, Helen responds to her experiences, reactions and interactions with locals and the environment around her. ‘i am a big gurl now’, is a series of works that draw inspiration from colours, sounds and visual stimulation Helen experiences throughout her stay.
