Dorris Ng is an artist focused on the dynamic realm of identity politics, using paintings and performative installations. Her large-scale paintings challenge conventional notions of identity through bold colors, intricate brushwork, and thematic exploration of class, desire, and cultural heritage. Ng’s performative installations incorporate intimate materials like building blocks and bubblegum, creating a relatable connection with the audience, also prompting viewers to deeply contemplate their own experiences and perspectives. This approach fosters a heightened level of engagement with the intricate themes of identity, both on a personal and collective level.
Ng is based in HART Haus studio, Hong Kong, and is chairman of the Hong Kong Art School Alumni Community Network with an MA from Central Saint Martins and a BFA from RMIT University and Hong Kong Art School. She has received awards such as the 1a Space Award, Boon Lee Award, and Dean’s List Award. Ng actively participates in art and cultural community projects with organizations like the MTR Corporation, Hong Kong Arts Centre, and Hong Kong Planner Institute.
