Zayd Latib（ザイド・ラティブ）はマイアミを拠点に活動する木工作家兼彫刻家です。南アフリカのダーバンで生まれ、フロリダ州クレルモンで育ちました。
ラティブの制作は、強さと純粋さの内在的な構造から形を通じて生まれるコミュニケーションの体系といえます。彼は木材を用いてブルータリスト的な形状を、有機的要素の層を通して蒸留し、洗練された造形へと落とし込みます。これらの形は拡張し続ける言語の象徴へと変化し、各作品が生々しい存在感と精神的な力をもった新たな動態を生み出します。
すべての作品はネジや金具を使わず、伝統的な技法を取り入れた手作業の道具のみで製作されます。この丹念な作業工程が、作品に確かな人間味を与えているのです。
Zayd Latib is a Miami based woodworker and sculptor. Born in Durban, South Africa and raised in Clermont, Florida.
Latib’s practice is a system of communication through form, stemming from innate structures of strength and purity. Through the use of wood he takes brutalist shapes and distills them through layers of organic elements. These refined forms morph into symbols of an ever expanding language. With each piece creating a new dynamic of raw presence and spiritual potency.
Each piece is crafted using hand tools, embracing traditional techniques that resist the use of screws and hardware. This meticulous undertaking infuses the work with a palpable human feel.
