シャナはアーティスト兼イラストレーターです。彼女の多分野にわたるアプローチは、重層的な物語や探究的な筆致、質感豊かな色彩を通して、どことなく浮遊する場所や驚きを呼び起こします。
ドローイングと視覚言語のプロセスを学びの手段として探求しながら、彼女は場所や物、人間の物語が潜む一見何気ない出来事の細部を丁寧に選び取り、変換することで、思索のための架空世界への扉を開いています。
Studio Kuraでの滞在中、シャナは「巨石的かつマクロな逍遥」をテーマに、新たな作品群を立ち上げることを計画しています。日本では、重力式ダムや高架橋、成層火山といった巨大構造物のスケールに刺激を受ける一方で、日常に遍在する昆虫の小さな営みにも目を向けています。夜更けに聞いた民話や、手渡されたオブジェと組み合わせながら、彼女はこうした断片を連ね、一連のドローイングへと結晶させようとしています。
Shana is an Artist and illustrator. Her multidisciplinary approach explores layered narratives, searching marks and textural colours to summon a unmoored sense of place and wonder in her work.
She explores with the process of drawing and visual language as a means of learning, carefully selecting and transforming observed particularities about place, objects, the seemingly mundane and human narratives in order to create doorways into fabricated worlds of enquiry.
During her time at Studio Kura she hopes to begin a new body of work based on meanderings of the megalithic and macroscopic. Whilst in Japan, she has been inspired by the scale of the gravity dams, overpass bridges and stratovolcanoes. In contrast to these colossal encounters, she has also observed the smaller, omnipresence of insects intertwining amongst everyday life. Paired with the night-time folktales she’s been told and objects she’s been given she hopes to begin to synthesise these pockets of information she’s collected into a series of drawings.
