Thomas Triebe-Pay’s work often explores the tension between simplicity and complexity. With a lifelong interest in working with his hands, Triebe-Pay brings together intuitive craftsmanship and the formal training he received from the University of Guelph. Specializing in sculpture, Thomas works across a broad range of materials—including metal, wood, concrete, plastic, and mixed media. Each sculpture serves as an opportunity to reimagine familiar forms, transforming everyday objects and materials by placing them in unexpected contexts. The result is a compelling sense of “foreign familiarity,” where the known becomes newly strange and thought-provoking.
Throughout the residency at Studio Kura, Triebe-Pay plans to engage with the surrounding area. Elements of nature, culture, architectural forms, and patterns of everyday life will all become sources of inspiration that will guide the conceptual development of his work. The sculpture/s he creates will serve as a reflection of these diverse influences.
