Jordan Barry-Browne（ジョーダン・バリー＝ブラウン）は、アイルランド・ダブリン出身のイラストレーター兼カートゥニストです。彼の作品は、コミックアート、レコードジャケットデザイン、B級映画、おもちゃ、日本美術、ヒップホップカルチャーなど、幅広い影響を受けています。これらの要素を融合させることで、どこか懐かしさを感じさせながらも、新鮮で想像力にあふれたキャラクター中心のビジュアルを生み出しています。
今回のStudio Kuraでのレジデンスは彼にとって2度目であり、日本での滞在制作としては3度目となります。これまでのプロジェクトでは、妖怪の世界や、小泉八雲（ラフカディオ・ハーン）の『怪談』の物語をテーマに制作を行ってきました。今回の滞在では、日本の「変身ブーム」のレガシーに焦点を当てています。これは、変身ヒーローや強烈なビジュアルを持つキャラクターが次々と生まれた時代です。このエネルギッシュで文化的にも豊かな時代からインスピレーションを得て、彼は特撮に影響を受けた独自のシリーズ作品の制作を目指しています。
Jordan Barry-Browne is an illustrator and cartoonist from Dublin, Ireland. His work draws from a wide spectrum of influences, including comic art, vinyl record design, B-movies, toys, Japanese art, and Hip-Hop culture. Blending these elements together, he creates bold, character-driven imagery that feels both nostalgic and freshly imagined.
This residency at Studio Kura marks his second time at the studio and his third residency in Japan. His previous projects explored the world of yōkai and the Kwaidan stories of Koizumi Yakumo (Lafcadio Hearn). During this residency, he turns his focus to the legacy of Japan’s Henshin Boom: an era that gave rise to a wave of transformative heroes and vividly stylised characters. Drawing from this explosive and culturally rich period, he aims to develop his own imagined tokusatsu inspired series.
