Allison Newbyは、アメリカ・オハイオ州コロンバスを拠点に活動するイラストレーター、コミックアーティストです。
1990年代から2000年代初頭の日本の漫画やアニメーションに影響を受けたAllisonは、かわいらしく魅力的な物語性を自身の作品に取り入れることに情熱を注いでいます。キャラクターアートでは、伝統的なインクや鉛筆を用いながら制作しています。子ども向けアニメーションや少女漫画・少女アニメのスタイルに着想を得た彼女は、これまでコンベンションやアーティストアレイなどで作品を発表してきました。
水彩、ガッシュ、色鉛筆、ステッカーなどのミクストメディアに、デジタル要素を組み合わせた表現も行っています。
今回が初めての日本滞在となるAllisonは、周囲の環境に心を動かされながら、よりゆっくりとした、ノスタルジックな物語表現を試みたいと考えています。異なる人種的背景を持つ両親のもとに生まれた彼女の短編漫画は、「人と違う」と感じながら成長することや、遅咲きであること、そして孤独な時間の中でも心の支えとなる情熱を持つことをテーマにしています。
Allison Newby is an illustrator and comic artist based in Columbus, Ohio.
Finding inspiration in Japanese manga and animation from the 90’s and early 2000’s, Allison is passionate about bringing cute and charming storytelling to her art, using traditional inks and pencils in her character art. Inspired by children’s animation, shoujo-style anime and manga, Allison has shown her work around conventions and artist alleys, blending digital elements with mixed media, including watercolors, gouache, colored pencils, and stickers.
Being her first time in Japan, Allison wants to experiment with a slower, nostalgic style of storytelling, moved by her surroundings. Born to mixed-race parents, her short story comic will focus on growing up “different” and feeling like a late-bloomer, yet being able to have passions to fall back on in moments of solitude.
