Josie Trujillo is a writer and film director based in Miami, Florida.

His work is rooted in realism, exploring themes of communication, identity, and the emotional cost of vulnerability. Through extended dialogue and characters who openly express what they think, his films focus on the ways people connect—and the ways they fail to connect.

His films are often told through an objective lens, placing viewers directly into people’s lives through multiple perspectives. Long takes, still frames, and quiet moments allow his characters to gradually come to life.

During his residency at Studio Kura, Josie is working on a collection of short stories set in a small community. The project explores coexistence, individual personalities, and the quiet ways people connect when they share the same place. Through these stories, he reflects on the individuals who make up a community and the roles they play in one another’s lives.
