以下アーティストからのメッセージです。
従来の物語形式から距離を置きながら、Clare Blackwellはコミックというメディアを断片へと解体し、空間と記憶を探求します。その結果として生まれた《GHOST》は、過去と現在の時間軸が交錯し、過去が絶えず現在に影を落とし続ける、重層的な集合的記憶のアーカイブです。
プロレタリア文学や個人的な歴史に着想を得たClareは、国家による暴力や急速な資本主義的成長の影響が、いかに身体に刻み込まれるのかを描き出します。抑圧されたトラウマは、意図せず、しばしば曖昧なかたちで記憶として噴出します。
トレーシングペーパーを重ねたり、グラファイト転写を用いたりする触覚的な制作プロセスを通じて、彼らは個人的記憶と集合的歴史が衝突する場所をなぞり、過去を現在へと呼び戻します。
忘却を促すために作られた物語に抗いながら、Clareは現代社会の「幽霊（yūrei）」を描きます。それは個人的な未練によって彷徨う存在ではなく、彼らを搾取したシステムそのものが終わっていないがゆえに、この世界に留まり続ける亡霊たちです。
彼らの作品は、世代を超えて抵抗を持続させるために不可欠なものとして、「集合的記憶を守る闘い」を中心に据えています。
Divesting from conventional narrative formats, Clare disassembles the comic into fragments to explore space and memory. The result is GHOST: a layered archive of collective memory whose chronology slips between past and present, the former perpetually shadowing the latter.
Inspired by proletarian literature and personal histories, Clare shows how the body becomes a canvas for state violence and the consequences of rapid capitalist growth. Repressed trauma erupts as memory: inadvertent, often hazy.
Tactile processes, such as layering tracing paper and graphite transfers, allow them to trace sites where personal memory and collective history collide, making the past present.
Against narratives designed to make us forget, Clare illustrates modern-life yūrei: ghosts trapped not by personal unfinished business, but because the system that exploited them never ended.
Their work centers the struggle for collective memory as essential to sustained resistance across generations.
