Aurora Solberg (Norway) Residence: October 2018
Aurora Lund Solberg is an artist based in Bergen, Norway. She specializes in painting, and completed her masters in Fine Art from the Art Academy/ University in Bergen in 2017, and her bachelor from Trondheim Art Academy in 2013. Her work has been shown several places in Norway.
Painting, both its material and techniques, are the starting point in Auroras practice. She explores the materials and media used in different types of painting, while exploring her own interaction with the materials. In recent years, she has focused on watercolour painting. Watercolour has its own way of revealing the colours and structures of the pigments, and also its movements. The contrast between controlling and letting go makes the technique both challenging and exciting to work with. Her work takes the form of paintings on paper and glass, and projections of, for example, drying paintings.
Before her stay at Studio Kura, Aurora will take a course in the making of traditional Japanese painting. During the residence period she will use these painting techniques to evolve her own work. She will also let the colours and light in the Japanese nature and culture inspire new ideas and expressions in her paintings.
