Gabriel Echaveste (United States) Residence: June to July 2019
Gabriel Echaveste is an artist based in California, USA. He completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration at Art Center College of Design and his Master of Fine Arts in Painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. His work has been shown in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and New York, NY.
He draws and paints from direct observation, clothing occupied and once occupied by live models. His paintings and drawings examine female contemporary clothing as visual psychological structures. He explores the once occupied articles of clothing as remnants of the contemporary feminine psyche.
During his residency, the artist will introduce present day Japanese fashion into his work. Through a series of drawings and paintings, Gabriel will explore cultural eastern views of both femininity and the psyche.
