Justin Seiji Waddell

Justin Seiji Waddell (Canada) Residence: November 2019

Justin Waddell graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design and received his MFA from the University of Windsor. He has previously served as the Director of Programming at YYZ Artists’ Outlet, the Director of the Stride Art Gallery Association, and as a Board Member of various Artist-Run Centres including Truck Gallery, The New Gallery, and the Calgary Cinematheque. His work and writing have been presented within artist-run centres, public galleries, festivals, and private project spaces. Waddell lives in Calgary, Alberta where he is an Associate Professor in the School of Visual Art at the Alberta University of the Arts.

While at Studio Kura, Justin will be completing some carved wood sculptures, small plaster casts, several small drawings on paper, and film. Additionally, Justin will be working towards completing a project investigating the experience of the Nikkei people that were forcibly interned in Canada during WWII including new audio works based on field recordings from the internment sites and the construction of small sculptures from found materials.
