Maya Cannon (Japan) Residence: July 2017
From Tokyo Japan, Maya is currently a student at the Rhode Island School of Design working towards a BFA in printmaking. She focuses on the tactile quality and meaning of materials, and is currently interested in exploring what she can do with paper and wood.
While raised in Tokyo, Maya is drawn to the rural areas of Japan, such as her mother’s hometown. These visits inspire her to capture a certain nostalgia towards tradition, and unravel the beauty associated with it. At Studio Kura, she hopes to do so while exploring the surrounding nature and meeting local people.
