Meagan Smith (United States) Residence: July 2019
Meagan Smith is an interdisciplinary fiber and ceramic artist from Kent, Ohio, United States. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from The University of Akron in 2015. She is currently matriculating a Masters of Fine Arts in Textiles from Kent State University. This year, she was selected as a grant recipient of the International Travel Award funded by Kent State University, Surface Design Award Outstanding Student, Alpaca Design Finalist, and continually showing at invitational exhibitions regionally and nationwide.
This opportunity will support her foundational thesis research in patterns drawn from nature. Upon her return she plans to interface these paintings and drawings with the digital loom.
At Studio Kura, she will continue to extrapolate forms to create taxonomical systems, iterations, and assemblages that carry sequences relating to a landscape or body.
