Nikki Lam (Australia) Residence: October 2018
Nikki Lam is an artist and curator based in Narrm/Melbourne, Australia. Nikki’s practice explores the complexity of belonging through the exploration of self, memory and space. Working primarily with video, performance, text and installation, she is interested in exploring the translations of hybrid identities, often through studies of rituals, language and representations.
Born in Hong Kong (1988), Nikki’s work has been shown at Underbelly Arts Festival (Sydney), SafARI (Sydney), The Substation (Melbourne), Australian Centre for Moving Image (Melbourne), Firstdraft (Sydney), BUS Projects (Melbourne), The Ferry Gallery (Bangkok), Galleria Marcollini (Forli, Italy), and toured around the world with Over View International Festival of Video Art.
Nikki is the former Artistic Director (2014-2016) of Channels, The Australian Video Art Festival, a biennial showcases contemporary video practices and continues to investigate the evolution of video culture. She is an editor-at-large at Peril Magazine, an arts and culture journal with Asian-Australian focus. She has worked with multiple arts organisations including Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), Footscray Community Arts Centre, Foundation for Arts and Creative Technology (FACT). Nikki has a Bachelor of Visual Arts in Photomedia (2009, Monash University) and Executive Master of Arts (2014, University of Melbourne).
