Ryder Richards

Ryder Richards (United States) Residence: June 2019

Ryder Richards was born (1977) and raised in Roswell, New Mexico. He currently lives and works in the Dallas area as an artist, writer, and occasional curator.

He earned a Masters in Fine Art from Texas Christian University and a Bachelors from Texas Tech University. His work has been exhibited across the United States from Brooklyn to Seattle, as well as internationally in Germany, China, Greece, Spain, and London.

Currently focused on Do-It-Yourself labor and culture, Ryder’s work engages with cultural capitalism and online communities as forms of personal empowerment. The work is concerned with the class identity and the politics of withdrawal, which developed from previous works on invisible labor, cultural production and consumption, and the aesthetics of civil unrest and institutional power dynamics.

During his stay the artist hopes to examine the tools and methods of labor in the region, perhaps making some drawings or learning how to build something new.
