Kacie Lees (United States) Residence: March 2020
Kacie Lees is an interdisciplinary artist, curator and professor based out of New York.
Lees’ vivid works underscore time and examine transitional spaces by synthesizing sustainable studio practices, performance, color therapy, fibers, neon, Hi8 video & sonic works into rhizomatic volumes.
At Studio Kura, Lees will be working on a forthcoming publication, ‘The Handbook for the Neon Artist’ due for its first edition print in the Fall of 2020 while absorbing Japan through video, photography & meditations.
Lees received her BFA (2008) from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, IL; her MFA (2012) from the School of Visual Arts in New York. Notable solo & group exhibitions include: She Bends [a traveling exhibition with stops at The Museum of Neon Art in Los Angeles (2017); The Midway in San Francisco (2018); Var West in Milwaukee (2019) & The Loveland Museum in Denver (2020)]; Necessary Phenomenon at O’ Project Space in Los Angeles, CA (2019) & Hollow Boom on Governors Island (2018). Lees has been a Light Artist Resident at the Center for Holographic Arts, NY (2017) & her work has been published in Reader’s Digest (US, 2015) and Plasma Interplanetary Magazine (Germany, 2018).
