London-born Alisa Welby is a Japanese\u2013New Zealand photographer and artist working primarily with analogue photography and darkroom processes. After completing a BA (Hons) in Design for Art Direction at University of Arts London, she has since worked across art direction, shoot production and photography, and is currently between London and T\u0101maki Makaurau, Aotearoa (Auckland, New Zealand). Her practice is an inquiry into cultural expression, identity and archive, often shaped by the lived experience of cross-cultural upbringings. Her work reflects a deep curiosity in how people find meaning through connection to place and community, and she is particularly interested in familial bonds, trauma and inherited memory. Through documentary and portraiture, both of others and herself, she explores the nuances and multiplicities of life, often through the mundane. During her time at Studio Kura, Alisa will continue to connect to her heritage and her mother\u2019s home town of Fukuoka, creating a series of documentary and portrait works.
