Melda Kilinc is a Germany based fashion design student with Turkish roots, whose practice moves between garment construction, drawing and quiet observation. Since childhood she has felt connected to artistic expression, finding calm in sketching. Her work is shaped by how she experiences her surroundings, both emotionally and visually. With awareness of her family\u2019s migration story, she approaches her craft with gratitude and the wish to give her best in every project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During her residency at Studio Kura, Melda is developing a capsule wardrobe of seven garments. Originally sewn in Germany in her university from raw cotton and over three months in Itoshima she will transform these pieces through encounters with the local landscape, culture and people. Using handwork, natural materials and techniques such as indigo dyeing, she aims to let each garment evolve so that her journey in Japan becomes visible in their final form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
