{"id":2674,"date":"2016-07-17T18:54:26","date_gmt":"2016-07-17T09:54:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/studiokura.info\/en\/?p=2674"},"modified":"2017-12-20T17:35:58","modified_gmt":"2017-12-20T08:35:58","slug":"visiting-local-summer-festival-with-current-artists-nogita-gion-in-shima-nogita-itoshima","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/studiokura.info\/en\/2016\/07\/visiting-local-summer-festival-with-current-artists-nogita-gion-in-shima-nogita-itoshima\/","title":{"rendered":"Visiting local summer festival with current artists: Nogita Gion in Shima-nogita, Itoshima"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Current artists and myself, Katsura went to the Suga shrine located in Shima-nogita, Itoshima city to see the local annual summer festival &#8220;Nogita-gion&#8221; being held on July 13th every year!<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c2.staticflickr.com\/9\/8866\/27680620753_e59c06f314_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" alt=\"DSC_5013\"><br \/>\nThis festival has been continued since the shrine constructed about 400 years ago, and it started for good harvest, well- being and good health in Summer.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c6.staticflickr.com\/9\/8601\/28294742125_2f6f1f2302_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" alt=\"DSC_4938\"><br \/>\nWe headed there by public transportation, taking a train to Chikuzen-Maebaru station then a 30-minute bus to get the shrine.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c3.staticflickr.com\/9\/8586\/28260667706_93e13b0ba4_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" alt=\"DSC_4942\"><br \/>\nBy walking two minutes from the bus stop, we arrived Suga shrine!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c4.staticflickr.com\/9\/8561\/28294765435_6fd1151534_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" alt=\"DSC_4944\"><br \/>\nArtists bought fruit candies straight away from a stall store called &#8220;Demise \u51fa\u5e97&#8221; in Japanese.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c4.staticflickr.com\/9\/8613\/28216129931_f1e40cd3e3_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" alt=\"DSC_4946\"><br \/>\nThere were rows of Demise selling grilled squid, crape and shaved ice served with various syrups called &#8220;Kakigoori \u304b\u304d\u6c37&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c4.staticflickr.com\/9\/8643\/28294889515_ec25291f56_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" alt=\"DSC_4957\"><br \/>\nWhen it got dark, around just before 20:00.. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c4.staticflickr.com\/9\/8813\/27679253483_44d4051eb4_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" alt=\"DSC_4961\"><br \/>\nMany guys in shimekomi loincloths started gathering in front of the shrine precinct!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c5.staticflickr.com\/9\/8785\/28260786636_935cdf3a91_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" alt=\"DSC_4966\"><br \/>\nIt seemed rare to have international visitors, we got many attention asking &#8220;Where are you from?&#8221; from local people, some kind gentlemen explained about this festival.  <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c5.staticflickr.com\/9\/8623\/28260778476_5f2b6653d2_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" alt=\"DSC_4968\"><br \/>\nFirst, the Shinto precinct offered a purifying ritual for safety on this event.<br \/>\nAfterwards, the priest moved the God spirit from the shrine precinct to the portable shrine (Mikoshi\u3000\u795e\u8f3f) while lights were flashing.     <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c8.staticflickr.com\/8\/7285\/28216327031_55a6275276_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" alt=\"DSC_4972\"><br \/>\nTwo young guys, who turned 20 years old shook out the red lion head and blue lion head while shouting &#8220;Oisa&#8211;!&#8221; as a sign to start the Goshinko-gyoretsu (the procession of the festival\u3000\u5fa1\u795e\u5e78\u884c\u5217).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c5.staticflickr.com\/9\/8797\/28013555700_aa28fab4ed_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" alt=\"DSC_4975\"><br \/>\nA drum, flags and Tengu(a long nosed goblin \u5929\u72d7) were also joined the procession.  <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c8.staticflickr.com\/9\/8768\/28295003695_207a9ba24a_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" alt=\"DSC_4981\"><br \/>\nFinally the golden Mikoshi which was carried by eight people left the the shrine precinct.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c2.staticflickr.com\/9\/8607\/27679363353_49b7725c10_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" alt=\"DSC_4985\"><br \/>\nThere were many people!  <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c8.staticflickr.com\/8\/7304\/28294984455_cd95527799_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" alt=\"DSC_4990\"><br \/>\nGuys in shimekomi loincloths headed to the coast, 500m away from the shine precinct, by pushing and shoving while kept shouting &#8220;Oisa!  Oisa!&#8221;. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c6.staticflickr.com\/8\/7551\/28294976685_870695bd01_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" alt=\"DSC_4993\"><br \/>\nBig containers with full of water were prepared by the street on both sides, people threw water on the men for purifying them as well as just simply to make them cold as they were too hot by pushing and shoving.  <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c7.staticflickr.com\/8\/7713\/27678943374_8e96226182_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" alt=\"DSC_5005\"><br \/>\nIt is said to expel evil and offer state of perfect health by shaking the lion head above children&#8217;s heads.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c4.staticflickr.com\/8\/7449\/28295118355_ac34f7cae2_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" alt=\"DSC_5007\"><br \/>\nAlmost there!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c4.staticflickr.com\/9\/8574\/28216468731_a3ed755d2f_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" alt=\"DSC_5028\"><br \/>\nWhen they reached to the cosat, they put themselves in the sea and cleansed themselves by purified sand and visited Mikoshi to do the ritual of hand clap and have omiki (sacred sake \u304a\u795e\u9152).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/8\/7285\/27678987304_b7d6a76445_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" alt=\"DSC_5021\"><br \/>\nThis whole process repeated three times, and it is called &#8220;Oshioitori \u304a\u6f6e\u4e95\u53d6\u308a&#8221;. This ceremony is to perform a purification ceremony for purifying yourself, removing misfortunes like disease and\/or disaster and calling fortune. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c4.staticflickr.com\/8\/7594\/28216465011_f989dd39a4_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" alt=\"DSC_5033\"><br \/>\nThey all looked very nice!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c8.staticflickr.com\/8\/7776\/28295090655_8412f9a37a_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" alt=\"DSC_5047\"><br \/>\nEveryone walked back to the shrine slowly with drum sounds, meanwhile the guys were still pushing and shoving.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c7.staticflickr.com\/9\/8702\/27678957174_925560802a_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" alt=\"DSC_5050\"><br \/>\nAfter the festival, We were back to Chikuzen-Maebaru by taking two taxis, then enjoyed Nagahama noodle (Ramen, \u3089\u30fc\u3081\u3093) nearby the station! <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c5.staticflickr.com\/9\/8865\/28261038116_e74e3cd507_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" alt=\"DSC_5053\"><\/p>\n<p>It was impressive to see that all of local residents were proud of continuing this precious traditional festival.<br \/>\nAll artists kept taking photos to capture every moment, and touched by this lively Japanese festival.<br \/>\nThank you for the people who explained this festival and you who read this!
