1回限りで作られるジェスチャーのような筆跡は、英国人アーティスト、ジリー・ビールの作品の特徴です。 彼女が制作する単色使いのインクと油絵は、すべての筆跡が身体からなる不正確なジェスチャーの瞬間を視覚的に捉えています。単色のインクと油絵の制限された媒体を通して、わずかな差異や触感のニュアンスによって表現することを可能にしています。
The Asian notion of simplicity in the calligraphic brushstroke is evident, perhaps testament to the fact that she lived in Asia for close to 30 years. Essentially she is interested in the notion of the hybrid — of ‘traditional’ versus ‘contemporary’ thinking — while exploring the visual and emotive potential of the gesture using different materials and improvised approaches.
