Anna Cho は、ニューヨークとソウルを拠点に活動するアーティストです。彼女の作品は、散発的に書き留められた短い物語の断片から着想を得た、視覚的コンポジションのシリーズが中心となっています。水性素材やグラファイト（黒鉛）を用いた紙上の表現に加え、紙のカットアウトやコラージュの手法を組み合わせながら制作しています。
チョーは、両親や祖父母から受け継いだ民話のように、確証のない慣習的な記憶に強い関心を寄せています。制作の計画段階では、そうした「曖昧な前提」を丁寧に検証していきます。日常のごく小さな変化や、見過ごしてしまいそうな瞬間に惹かれ、それらをストーリーボードのような番号付きのシリーズへと展開していきます。
物語の進行は多くの場合ゆっくりとして最小限ですが、作品全体に繰り返し現れるモチーフがシリーズをひとつに結びつけます。最小のものこそ最も大きな意味を持ち、不自然なものほど自然に感じられ、繊細なものほど最も明白になる──彼女はこうした逆説を信じ、水や絵具が持つ変容の力と紙の多様な操作を通して表現しています。
Anna Cho is an artist based in New York and Seoul. Her works are primarily a series of visual compositions inspired by a collection of sporadic short story entries. Cho works with water-based media and graphite on paper, combining paper cutouts and collaging methods. She is inspired by unverified, conventional memories such as traditional folk stories passed down by her parents and grandparents. Curious assumptions are thoroughly investigated during the planning process. Intrigued by minimal changes and seemingly mundane moments, Cho expands these ideas into numbered series resembling storyboards. The progression of her narratives is often slow and minimal, yet recurring elements throughout the works unify each series. Believing in the antithesis that something minimal can be the most significant, that the unnatural can feel most natural, and that subtlety can be the most obvious, Cho expresses these concepts through various manipulations of paper and the transformative qualities of water and paint.
