Announcing Julia Peintner’s Exhibition “FIGURES”

We are pleased to announce an exhibition FIGURES by Julia Peintner on September 23 (Sat) and 24 (Sun), as a result of her activity during her stay at Studio Kura.

Julia Peintner is a painter and print-maker, living and working in London, UK. She graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2015 and has exhibited in group exhibitions in the UK, Europe, US and Japan. Her work is figurative and surreal. Topics that come up in her recent work are group dynamics and seemingly common scenarios of everyday life.

Here are some words from the artist herself.

The centrepiece of my images is always the figure; as an individual or in a community, still or in motion. For the pieces that I will be showing I was interested in doing two things: looking into how I can use colour and gradients in my work but more importantly, experimenting with the format e.g. the quantity of canvases/printing blocks next to each other, transforming a single person into a group/community.

Announcing Laurence Rimes’s Exhibition “海と土地 / Sea and Land”

We are pleased to announce an exhibition 海と土地 / Sea and Land by Laurence Rimes on September 23 (Sat) and 24 (Sun), as a result of his activity during his stay at Studio Kura.

Laurence Rimes has completed 5 years training in sculpture and printmaking at the Canberra School of Art (ANU) Australia. Initially concentrating on sculpture his interests now focus on drawing using charcoal, pastel and acetate sheet for printing.
His practice uses subjects that are sculptural within a landscape, such as stone quarries, man made structures and people going about their daily work.

Here are some words from the artist himself.

These drawings have come about from my observations of Itoshima fishing and agricultural industries.

I like to work by daily moving out in concentric circles, recording what takes my interest and at times magnifying–moving deeper into the image.

My use of colour and cut off image is influenced by Japanese wood block prints.

Announcing Christoffer Ohlander’s Exhibition “Wooden rollator”

We are pleased to announce an exhibition Wooden rollator by Christoffer Ohlander on September 23 (Sat) and 24 (Sun), as a result of his activity during his stay at Studio Kura.

Christoffer Ohlander is an industrial designer based in Stockholm.
Since graduating with a bachelor’s degree in industrial design from Konstfack in Stockholm 2015, he has been working as a design engineer for renowned audio company Teenage Engineering. Christoffers work has won several design awards and was last exhibited during the 2016 Japan design week.
By implementing a human-centred product design, he tries to enhance the users well-being. He tries to create products that fulfill emotional needs, while still being functional.

Here are some words from the artist himself.

The wooden rollator is a crossover between furniture and aid-product, made for indoor use. The benefits of using wood are many – it can make the rollator lighter, more environmentally friendly and durable. I’m trying to create a rollator that is not seen as a necessary evil, but as something to empower the user both functionally and on an emotional level.
