Getting to Studio Kura from Hakata Station

This is a guide to get to Studio Kura from Hakata Station (where you would get off the Shinkansen). This is going to be rather thorough but please do not feel intimidated. It is actually quite simple and you could get around by just asking for Ikisan, the nearest station to Studio Kura, and letting people help you.

Ikisan Station

It is a 50 minute train ride to Ikisan. You can ride the subway at Hakata Station, but only a number of trains each hour will go all the way to Ikisan. It is important to check the suitable times so that you do not need to change trains.

To check the train times in English, we recommend searching Hyperdia. On the results, it will look like you would have to change trains at Meinohama, but you do not even need to get off your train. It looks like this just because the line changes names, and the fare is split because different companies run them, but you need not worry about it.

Now that you know the time you need to ride the train at, I will explain how to get a ticket. Actually, the subway employees will be happy to help with the process or even look up the right time for you to ride the train. But it is not difficult either to use the vending machine yourself. First, you need to push the English button. Then, look for the JR Chikuhi Line button, as you need to buy a ticket that includes your fare for that line. Last, press the 670 yen button and pay for your ticket. Your platform is the one whiches trains do not go to Fukuoka Airport.

It does not say ¥700 on Ikisan on this picture, because the picture was taken at a nearer station

As you will see on Hyperdia, at some times of the day the last stop of the train you ride at the airport will be Chikuzen Maebaru, which is 10 minutes short of Ikisan. These times you need to ride the next train going in the right direction (trains heading for anywhere but Fukuoka Airport). Some times your train will be waiting for you on the opposite side of the platform and will depart in one minute, and other times you will have to change platforms and wait for 10 to 15 minutes.
