Announcing Chloe Jane Hambleton’s Exhibition “air”

We are pleased to announce an exhibition air by Chloe Jane Hambleton on February 23(Sat) & 24 (Sun) , as a result of her activity during her stay at Studio Kura.

Chloe Jane Hambleton is an Australian contemporary dance artist (Bachelor of Fine Arts- Dance Performance, Queensland University of Technology, 2016). She uses the inspiration of emotions, people and places to create unique movement. In her work, she takes this movement and presents it per-formatively, photographically and in film.

Since 2017, Chloe has been developing her Place in [e] Motion Project. Stage One, was in her hometown (Brisbane, Australia) in May-June, 2017, at House Conspiracy. Stage Two, was in March, 2018 at PINEA-LINEA DE COSTA A.I.R. (Rota, Spain) and Stage Three, was April-June, 2018 at TAKT A.I.R. (Berlin, Germany). Each new environment plays a vital role in developing new ways of thinking and creating, through the unique inspirations found in each place.

Influenced by the landscape, architecture and people surrounding Studio Kura, as part of my process, I devised a Movement Language. This language is the main source of movement within my film, as each position has a clear intention and meaning. While creating this Movement Language and filming air the themes of reflection, stillness and the contrast between the bustling Fukuoka city and the quietness and peacefulness of Itoshima were a constant. As an outsider, I arrived here and breathed it in; air is my response to this place.

I had hoped to expose the shape of time through my weaving. But I was not prepared for my heavy awareness of it as I wove it. I tried hard to ignore the timer and weave normally.
But I was part of the experiment I had constructed and there was no stepping outside of it.
