Komikka Patton is a traveling 2D multimedia artist. Patton uses ink, paper, and collage to create works centrally based on the African Diasporan human condition; her large paper installations and collages touch futurism, transhumanism, mythology, and storytelling. Her work investigates stories; they disassemble and reassemble time, matter, space, and perspective, coupling fragments of thoughts, memories, and associations with folklore, mysticism, and the metaphysical.
The work features collaged experiences, scenes, and possibilities, meeting at an equilibrium of life and death, deep understanding, acceptance, and a welcoming into the Abyss. My works investigate battle scars; they halt time for a moment to allow the audience a chance to collect to gain clarity through a multitude of lenses, sometimes of one individual and sometimes through many: works that are fragments of thoughts, memories, shadows, and dreams that converge at a moment of clarity and self-awareness. The intention of each piece is always to be reflective, authentic, and thought-provoking. To stimulate introspection, to challenge what we think we know, and to step willingly into the unknown, with the hopes of shining light on what we would rather hide or have yet to discover about ourselves and the ins and outs of our realities, skins, and evolution.
