ヴァレ・ウィルソン（Vale Wilson）は、チリ出身で現在バルセロナを拠点に活動するイラストレーター／ビジュアルアーティストです。彼女の制作は、強迫的なコントロールと必要不可欠なカオスのあいだに位置し、意味を一方的に押し付けるのではなく、鑑賞者が物語を自ら補完できる余地を残したイメージを生み出します。しばしば登場するのは、鳥や植物、波といったシンボル。大声で語るのではなく囁くような小さな隠喩であり、記憶や感情、つながりを静かに示唆しています。
彼女の作品はまた、敬意の表れとして形づくられています。敬愛する女性たちへのオマージュ、身体に響き続ける音楽、単純化を拒むことでむしろ真実味を帯びる登場人物たち。これらの影響は、彼女の視覚世界に大きな声ではなく、しかし確かに浸透していきます。
ヴァレの活動領域は、イラストレーション、壁画、テキスタイルデザイン、タトゥーと多岐にわたります。どのメディアを用いるにしても、その目的は一貫しています――視覚的に強く訴えかけ、どこか奇妙でありながら、静かに親密さをたたえるイメージを生み出すこと。
今回のStudio Kuraでのレジデンスでは、日本での滞在から得るインスピレーションをもとに、これらのテーマをさらに探求していきます。
Vale Wilson is a Chilean illustrator and visual artist based in Barcelona. She works somewhere between obsessive control and necessary chaos, creating images that don’t dictate meaning but leave room for viewers to complete the story themselves. Symbols often appear; birds, plants, waves. Small metaphors that whisper rather than shout, speaking of memory, emotion and connection.
Her work is also shaped by tributes: to the women she admires, to music that lingers in the body, and to characters who feel real because they resist being simplified. These influences slip into her visual worlds not loudly, but insistently.
Vale’s practice spans illustration, muralism, textile design, and tattooing. Whatever the medium, her aim is the same: to make images that are visually striking, slightly strange, and quietly intimate. During her residency at Studio Kura, she will explore these themes further, drawing inspiration from her surroundings in Japan.
