Joshua Copland-Nielsen（オーストラリア）は、映像、版画、鋳造、彫刻など、さまざまなメディアを横断して制作を行うアーティストです。2023年にNational Art Schoolで版画を専攻し、Master of Fine Artを取得し、2019年にはUNSW Art & DesignでBachelor of Art Theoryを修了しました。
彼の作品では、身体を直接描くのではなく、その「不在」を通して身体を表現し、幽霊的な存在（スペクトル）というテーマに焦点を当てています。近年は「椅子」を繰り返しモチーフとして用いており、人の身体を受け止める器としての椅子が、そこに座った人の痕跡や気配を宿す対象として提示されています。
最近までオーストラリアで郵便配達員として働いていた経験から、バイク、道路標識、そして反射材やハイビジビリティカラー（高視認性の色）といった要素にも影響を受けています。作品は鮮やかな色彩や多様な素材によって遊び心のある視覚性を持ちながらも、そのテーマは、喪失とともに生きることを学んでいく過程、そして制作という実践やプロセスがそれをどのように支えるのかという、より深い問いへと結びついています。
Joshua Copland-Nielsen (Australia) focuses on a multitude of mediums, that include video work, printmaking, casting, sculpture and more. He completed his Master of Fine Art in Printmaking at the National Art School in 2023, and Bachelor of Art Theory at UNSW Art & Design in 2019.
He represents the body in his work via their absence, focusing on thematics of the spectre. In recent years, the repetitive use of the chair has been used to display an object that cradles the human body and collects the essence of the person that sits upon it.
After recently working as a Postal Delivery Officer in Australia, he is further influenced by motorbikes, road signs and the use of reflective or hi-vis colours. Although his works impart a playful visuality, through colour and an array of materials, his themes tie closer to the journey of learning to live with ongoing process of grieving, and how practice and process helps.
