Play Me は、3枚の連結したパネルに描かれたアクリルとミクストメディアの作品です。
私は長年にわたり、昆虫の精緻な世界に魅了されてきました。この関心は多くの作品に影響を与えてきました。Love Bugs では、人間とトコジラミとの親密な関係を探求しています。トコジラミは不快の象徴とされがちですが、夜に人間と接触し、血を吸うことで、歪んだ肉体的な近さを生み出し、親密さや脆弱さの象徴となります。BUGS: Communication/Miscommunication between Artists は、芸術家同士のコミュニケーションの複雑さや誤解を掘り下げた共同制作の書籍です。Strap-on Butterflies では、超現実的なセックス・トイが美と不穏なイメージを並置し、蝶の羽の美しさを裏返すと蠢く昆虫の脚が現れる仕掛けを用いています。
今回の最新作 Play Me では、フランツ・カフカの『変身』から着想を得たシュルレアリスム的な領域に踏み込みました。ただし、物語を再話したり登場人物を強調することが目的ではなく、その物語を出発点として「肉体的意識の超現実的な自覚」というテーマを探っています。
ここに描かれた虫は仰向けになっており、その姿勢は脆弱さを象徴し、カフカの小説の場面を反映しています。肉体的意識の超現実的な状態の中で、虫は快楽と遊び心に浸ります。膨れ上がった乳房は男性的な性的興奮や爆発的な多産性を示唆し、創造的プロセスと共鳴しています。

For many years, I have been captivated by the intricate world of insects, which has inspired many aspects of my work. Love Bugs explores the intimate connection between humans and bed bugs. Although bedbugs are associated with discomfort, they become symbols of intimacy and vulnerability as they make contact with humans at night, drawing blood and creating a distorted physical closeness.BUGS:Communication/Miscommunication between Artists is a collaborative book work that delves into the complexities and misunderstandings of artistic communication. In Strap-on Butterflies, surreal sex toys juxtapose beauty with unsettling imagery, where mesmerizing butterfly wings reveal wriggling insect legs when turned around.
In my latest work, titled Play Me, I delve into the surreal realm inspired by Franz Kafka’s Metamorphosis. However, my intention isn’t to retell the story or emphasize its characters. Instead, I use the story as a springboard for exploring themes of surreal awareness of corporeal consciousness.
The bug depicted here lies on its back, a posture symbolic of vulnerability, mirroring the moment from Kafka’s novel. In its carnal state of surreal bodily awareness, the bug revels in pleasure and playfulness. The swollen udders on the bug, suggesting male arousal and explosive fertility, resonate with the creative process.
