Lauren Metzler（ローレン・メッツラー）は、アメリカ・オレゴン州出身で、現在オーストラリア・シドニーを拠点に活動する「コージー」な作風のアーティストであり、コミック作家、ストーリーテラーです。
自閉スペクトラム症のイラストレーターとして、包摂的な物語を描く、あたたかくウィットに富んだアートやコミックを制作しています。現在、デビュー作となるグラフィックノベル『Side Quest!』📚を制作中です。
Studio Kuraでのアーティスト・イン・レジデンス期間中、ローレンは自身の「日本でのサイドクエスト」をテーマにしたコミックを制作します。どこへ行くにも、彼女のキャラクターであるノイズキャンセリングヘッドホンをつけた自閉症のドラゴン「コーネリアス・スケーリーボトム」が一緒です。
東京の世界最大のアニメショップで夢中になり、京都国際マンガミュージアムでマンガの歴史を学び、「日本の台所」と呼ばれる大阪で絶品の食事を楽しみ、奈良公園でおじぎをする鹿たちに出会い、そして糸島の静かな田園でアートを制作する——そんな旅の中で、ローレンとコーネリアスは日本のアート、文化、アニメ、マンガ、そしてもちろんポケモンからも多くのインスピレーションを受けてきました。🌸
そしてポケモンのように、彼女たちも「進化」しています。
Lauren Metzler is a cozy artist, comic creator and storyteller originally from Oregon, now based in Sydney, Australia.
As an Autistic illustrator, she loves making cozy, whimsical art and comics that feature inclusive stories. She is currently working on her debut graphic novel, Side Quest! 📚
During her art residency at Studio Kura, Lauren will create a comic of her own personal side quest through Japan…while working on Side Quest! Everywhere Lauren travels, her character Cornelius Scalybottom, an Autistic dragon with noise cancelling headphones, is right there with her! From nerding out in the largest anime store in the world in Tokyo, to learning about the history of Manga at the International Manga Museum in Kyoto, to eating incredible food in “the kitchen of Japan” aka Osaka, to meeting the bowing deer in Nara park, and creating art in the quiet countryside of Itoshima. 🌸
With each new experience, both Lauren and Cornelius have grown…inspired by Japanese art, culture, anime, manga, and of course, Pokemon!
And just like Pokemon, they are evolving!
