以下アーティストからのメッセージです。
本シリーズの作品は、日常が自身の制作に与える影響について扱っています。2021年に母を癌で亡くした経験に向き合う中で、私の制作プロセスは、日々の観察による癒しとして形づくられてきました。最近では郵便配達員として働くようになり、職場環境の特性から生まれる蛍光色や反射素材といった不自然な色彩に見られる「醜さの中の美しさ」に強く惹かれるようになりました。また、郵便配達の仕事を通して道端にある様々な素材に出会い、それらを2024年と2025年の作品に取り入れています。
さらに、日本各地を車で巡る中で、道路上のリフレクターや点滅するライト、標識の数々に強く惹きつけられるようになりました。これらは本来、安全な運転環境をつくるための警告として機能しているものですが、同時に、私にとってはしばしば注意をそらす存在として映るという皮肉も感じています。
本作品群は、日本の道路や標識の色彩に影響を受けて制作されたものであり、日常生活が自身の表現に与える影響を探るこれまでの一連の作品の延長線上に位置づけられています。
This series of works touches upon the influence of the everyday on my practice. In dealing with the recent passing of my mother to cancer in 2021, the therapy of my artistic process is influenced by my daily observations. With the recent job title as a postman, I found myself obsessed with the beauty of ugliness, particularly in fluorescence and reflective unnatural colours due to the inherent nature of my workplace setting. Working as a postman I further found a lot of materials on curb sides and utilised them in some of my recent works in 2024 and 2025.
After recently driving around a larger part of Japan, I find myself drawn in by so many road reflectors, flashing lights and signs. The irony I see in this, is that they intend to warn and create a safe driving environment, however, at many times I find them to be very distractive.
The following works are influenced by colours of Japanese roads and signage. They follow on from a body of work that consider the influence of the day-to-day on my practice.
