Adam Raiford Wilson (アダム・レイフォード・ウィルソン（1998年生まれ））は、ウィスコンシン州マディソンを拠点に活動するファウンド・オブジェクト・アーティストで、アーカンソー州出身です。ウィルソンは、熟練した職人を支える消費のあり方を提唱し、企業による大量生産の消費しやすいホームデコレーションに対して批判的な立場をとっています。スタジオクラでの8週間の滞在中、ウィルソンは「Knob Boxes（ノブ・ボックス）」と題した作品シリーズをさらに発展させる予定です。このプロジェクトでは新たに7点のボックス制作を目標としており、京都、大阪、東京、福岡で収集したアンティーク素材を使用しています。
「この1年間、私はファウンド・オブジェクトによる彫刻を通して『意味の飽和（semantic satiation）』という概念を探求してきました。ありふれた日用品（ドアノブ、ビーズ、車の鍵など）を本来の文脈から切り離し、大量に用いることで、それらは元の姿や意味を失い、認識できないものへと変化します。見慣れたものを反復することで鑑賞者の期待は揺さぶられ、作品の構造を読み解こうとしながら、その要素を解体しようとするよう促されるのです。」
Adam Raiford Wilson (born 1998) is a found-object artist based in Madison, Wisconsin, originally from, Arkansas. Wilson advocates for consumption habits that support skilled craftspeople, and rejects the mass-production of digestible corporate home decor. While at studio Kura for 8 weeks, Wilson will expand his body of work titled “Knob Boxes.” With the goal of creating 7 more boxes, Wilson has sourced antique materials from Kyoto, Osaka, Tokyo, and Fukuoka for this project.
“Over the last year I have been exploring the concept of semantic satiation through found-object sculptures. I have discovered that when mundane objects (door knobs, beads, car keys, etc.) are removed from their expected context and used in large quantities, the original object becomes unrecognizable. The repetition of something common and often overlooked rips expectations from the viewer, prompting them to investigate the sculpture and attempt to dissect its components.”
