Justine（ジャスティン）は、オーストラリア・クイーンズランド州の Turrbal（ターバル）族および Jagera（ジャガラ）族の未割譲地 に敬意を払いながら、制作・活動を行っているアーティストであり、アートサイコセラピストです。30年以上にわたり制作と発表を続けており、オーストラリア国内の第一線で活躍するアーティストたちのもとで学んだほか、ロンドンの Turps School of Art でも研鑽を積みました。
彼女の作品は、日常の中での経験や、歩きながら見つめ、観察する時間によって形づくられています。そうした観察は、彼女の想像力や夢の世界から生まれるイメージ、色彩、パターンと並んで、作品の重要な要素として存在しています。
ジャスティンは、幅広い素材や支持体を用いて制作を行い、好奇心と実験精神を原動力に、素材やメディウムの可能性そのものを押し広げていきます。彼女の作品は、鑑賞者がその中に入り込み、それぞれの物語を紡ぐための余白を大切にしています。
スタジオクラ滞在中は、手漉きの日本の和紙を用いたミクストメディア作品や、厚紙・紙・浜辺で拾った漂流物・テキスタイルなどを素材とした小さなアッサンブラージュ作品の制作に取り組む予定です。
Justine is a practicing artist and art psychotherapist living and working on unceded Turrbal and Jagera lands in Qld, Australia. She has over 30 years of experience exhibiting and making and has undertaken training with leading artists in Australia and at the Turps school of art in London. Justine’s work is shaped by the everyday and time spent walking and looking—these observations exist as influences in her work alongside images, colours and patterns from her imagination and dream life.
Justine works across a wide range of materials and surfaces, pushing the boundaries of what a medium can do, following curiosity and experimentation as much as intention. Her work leaves space for the viewer to step in and have their own part in the creation of a narrative.
For Justine’s time at Studio Kura she will be focussing on mixed media works on handmade Japanese papers and small assemblages made from card, paper, beach flotsam and textile.
