Izaro Ieregi (Basque country) Residence: July to August 2018
Izaro Ieregi (Algorta, 1987). Graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the UPV-EHU (2010), she has carried out individual exhibitions at the Tower House of Ariz, Basauri (2017), C.C. San Martin, Buenos Aires (2017) and the Chinese European Art Centre, Xiamen (2017). She has also presented her work in the following spaces: Guggenheim Bilbao Museum (2017), NY Space, Manchester (2016), Getxoarte, Getxo (2016), Fundación Bilbaoarte (2016) and at the Complutense University of Madrid (2015). She is a founding partner of the OKELA space with headquarters in Bilbao.
I start with a work method that goes through a framework of violence with the idea of transfiguring it by recording a performance activity. By using activities registered in archives and making use of a score and devices that enable us to contort our body and distort our voice. Recording a new event. An exercise of form. Performative repetition.
