ロンドン生まれのAlisa Welby(アリサ・ウェルビー)は、日本とニュージーランドにルーツを持つ写真家・アーティストで、主にアナログ写真と暗室技法を用いて制作しています。
ロンドン芸術大学（University of Arts London）でアートディレクションデザイン学士号（優等）を取得後、アートディレクション、撮影プロデュース、写真など幅広く活動。現在はロンドンとニュージーランド・オークランド（タマキ・マカウラウ）を拠点にしています。
彼女の実践は、文化的表現・アイデンティティ・アーカイブに対する探求であり、多文化的な環境で育った自身の経験に深く影響を受けています。人々が「場所」や「コミュニティ」とのつながりを通じていかに意味を見出すのかという問いに強い関心を持ち、家族の絆、トラウマ、継承された記憶といったテーマを掘り下げています。ドキュメンタリーやポートレート（他者と自己の両方）を通して、日常の中に潜む人生の複雑さや多層性を丁寧に探っています。
スタジオクラでの滞在中、アリサは自身のルーツと母の故郷である福岡とのつながりをさらに深めながら、ドキュメンタリーおよびポートレート作品のシリーズを制作します。また、九州の伝統、民俗、エコロジー、テキスタイル文化に関するリサーチを通して、触覚的な素材やメディウムの探求にも取り組みます。
London-born Alisa Welby is a Japanese–New Zealand photographer and artist working primarily with analogue photography and darkroom processes. After completing a BA (Hons) in Design for Art Direction at University of Arts London, she has since worked across art direction, shoot production and photography, and is currently between London and Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa (Auckland, New Zealand). Her practice is an inquiry into cultural expression, identity and archive, often shaped by the lived experience of cross-cultural upbringings. Her work reflects a deep curiosity in how people find meaning through connection to place and community, and she is particularly interested in familial bonds, trauma and inherited memory. Through documentary and portraiture, both of others and herself, she explores the nuances and multiplicities of life, often through the mundane. During her time at Studio Kura, Alisa will continue to connect to her heritage and her mother’s home town of Fukuoka, creating a series of documentary and portrait works. She is also using this time to explore tactile mediums and materials, with research into Kyūshū traditions, folklore, ecology and textile practices.
