Peter Granser’s exhibition: „Schattenfelder“

We are proud to announce that Studio Kura Gallery will be exhibiting the work Peter Granser did while while in residence at Studio Kura. Peter is an internationally known Austrian photographer based in Germany’s Stuttgart, and he is here thanks to the help the Austrian Cultural Forum granted him.

He was inspired by Matsuo Bashō’s literary work Oku no Hosomichi (The Narrow Road to the Deep North), and is spending his residence riding a bicycle around Itoshima (sometimes climbing mountains). This is resulting in a series of photographs and videos portraying rural settlements in an artistic way. His focus is not traditional landscapes, instead he usually focuses on the small discoveries beside the path, in the shadows.

Smoke in the forest, swirls on the sea, children in strange poses (is she dancing or is she falling on the ground?)… You may find a picture that brings doubt to you, or makes you uncomfortable.

Photographs will be shown at Studio Kura Gallery, and the installation and video work will be shown in a tatami floored room in a Japanese traditional house.

We will be happy to see you at the opening party!
