スタジオクラでの滞在中、私は地域の下草に見られる線や質感の微妙な表現を探求することに興味を持ち始めました。この下草は、私たちが作り上げた環境の基盤であり背景として存在しています。この植物の世界は、静かに共存しているか、あるいは時にはかなり圧迫感を与えつつ、私たちが秩序の崩壊から決して遠くないことを思い出させます。
通常、顔料スティックを使い、下地を準備した紙に制作していますが、私の作品は主に線を基調としており、「絵画」というよりも「ドローイング」と見なされるかもしれません。私は、この独特な地域の「混沌」とより深く向き合い、その中にある何かを理解することで、人々が一見ランダムに見える表面の奥にあるものを見つけられるようなイメージを生み出したいと考えています。
今回展示している作品は、映画をリアルタイムで描写するという2024年のシリーズからのものです。
With my time at Studio Kura my interest is leaning towards exploring the subtleties of line and texture within the local undergrowth. The unsung foundation and backdrop to our built environment. These plant worlds coexist quietly or sometimes quite oppressively as reminders that we are never far from the breakdown of order.
Typically working with pigment stick on prepared paper my work is mostly line based and could be considered more “drawing” than painting. I’m hoping through my work to develop a better familiarity with this particular local chaos and create some imagery that might also help others see beyond the seemingly random surface.
