Darae Baek (South Korea) Residence: March 2017
Darae Baek (b. 1989) is a visual artist based in London and Seoul, Korea and She is specialised in performing and Video installation. She completed her Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins and is planning to start for Master of Fine Art at Glasgow School of Art in 2017.
She finds the keywords of stories in the nostalgia of the past that she feel in new places. She sometimes recalls familiar fragrances and past moments from unfamiliar places. In totally different time and space, she recalls unexpected memories that she had forgotten. The moment she feel such reverberation of the past, the “new place” no longer holds the meaning that only new places can keep in as it gets easily absorbed by the nostalgia which transcends time and space. The reason is because that place has already become entangled with her memories.
At the Studio Kura, she is experiencing the moments that will emerge as nostalgia in the course of the journey of making and recording special stories to the past recalled in Itoshima, Fukuoka.
