Hiroka Yamashita (Japan) Residence : August 2018
b.1991, Hyogo, Japan, New York-based painter.
Yamashita has painted based on the observation of the life, folktales, and memories.
By addressing both traditional Japanese and Western painting methods, her work is picturing “ephemerality” and one’s perception of a mind with awe of nature or the fear of something we can’t see or predict.
She graduated from School of Visual Arts, NY in 2016, and had a solo exhibition in Osaka, Japan in 2017. Currently in MFA program in Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers, NJ.
While she stays in Itoshima, she’ll focus on visualizing forms and colors that keep changing from Itoshima’s sceneries and watersides.
