Kalina Winska

Kalina Winska (United States) Residence: December 2019 to January 2020

Kalina Winska, based in South Georgia, USA, works mostly in mixed media drawing. She completed her MFA in Studio Art degrees in Poland, from The Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wroclaw, and in US, from University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. She has exhibited in several art venues across the US, in Poland, Germany, and Canada.

Her works bridge the gap between the analytical nature of scientific data, and the evocative and ambiguous nature of contemporary drawing. The intricate and expressive quality of her works draw the viewer in to analyze and contemplate the human impulse to measure and calculate natural phenomenon.

While at Studio Kura, she will use the proximity of Itoshima to the sea for inspiration as she continues her exploration of human impact on natural resources and climate. She will create
layered abstract drawn surfaces on paper which will reference images generated by weather measuring instruments, e.g. weather radar.
