Ruby Silvious

Ruby Silvious (United States) Residence: June 2016

Ruby Silvious is a visual artist and graphic designer based in New York. For the past three years, she has been experimenting with found objects and salvaged materials, and most recently, painting on used, emptied-out tea bags functioning as small canvases.

Last year, her visual journal titled, 363 Days of Tea, went viral and continues to be featured in blogs and magazines across Europe, Asia and Africa.

While in residency at Studio Kura, she plans to create a mini-series of the tea bag art, altering the medium to reflect traditional and contemporary Japanese culture. In addition, she will design two life-size kimonos made of recycled materials.
