Sabina Kafkova
I have just turned 24, however, I have been a student of art since I was 6 years old. Currently, I am studying illustration and printmaking in the Faculty of Art in West Bohemia. With my work I am trying to focus on art expression through drawing in many different forms. As a creator with so many possible graphic techniques to use I embody a variety of atmospheres and moods in my illustration. Furthermore, also thanks to my university printmaking happened to become one of my most favorable art expressions of them all. Nevertheless, some of my printing techniques that I hold close to my heart are woodcut, lithography, mokulito and etching.
On a different note, depicting everyday things which are not appreciated enough in my opinion, has become a significant theme of my art work recently. My way of living is closely tied to Prague ,the main city of Czech Republic, where I have observed the urban landscape and watched the cohabitation of different elements. In my art I like to explore the contrast between prefab concrete buildings and ever increasing urban growth showcasing parts of my hometownI. Recently I have been exploring possibilities of combining fragments of my memories of public spaces with intimate thoughts and moments of my life. This link of different themes gave life to almost surreal compositions filled with urban sceneries, trees, animals and myself included.
In my future projects I would like to push this new way of expressing reality even further , with improving my skills of printing mokulitos, mokuhangas and yet unknown techniques. I believe this would give my work the long desired depth.
Sabina is going to stay in Studio Kura for one month.
