Announcing Bissan Rafe’s solo exhibition: Water Waves Fairytales
Some words from the artist herself:
Water Waves Fairytales is an exhibition highlighting the artist’s experience and research in Japan. The research is part of an ongoing three-years long project spanning several countries so far (Italy, Portugal, Palestine, Texas –US-, and Japan), where the artist undergoes cultural and naturopathic medicine research to create a fairytale unique to each region.
The paintings featured in the exhibition are an introduction or a window into several fairytales written by the artist during her stay in Gunma, Tokyo, Chiba, and Fukouka. The work is heavily influenced by waves and is done using Sumi and/or India ink.
The exhibition also features a video/audio installation portraying the artist’s similar research in the other countries. The ultimate goal of the research is to publish a fairytale anthology written and illustrated by the artist that combines different cultures together through tradition and folklore.
