We are pleased to announce an exhibition Daijobu daijoboo: YOu oKAI YoU alREIght by Paola Germar on February 24 (Saturday) & 25 (Sun), as a result of her activity during her stay at Studio Kura.
Paola Germar is a painter and soft sculpture artist who graduated Fine arts from the University of the Philippines Diliman in 2011.
She lives and works in the Philippines. She has exhibited her works not only in the Philippines but also in places like South Korea, and Singapore.
Here are some words from the artist herself.
There is a difference between looking and seeing.
Looking is effortless. It’s a prolonged glance. Your eyes are glazed over and thoughtless. An entire scene zaps right through your pupils and projects an indistinct blob of shapes and colors. You decode the blur with automatic associations from experience – a landscape, serene; a party, lively; a smile, innocent; and a skeleton, ominous.
But seeing depends on you. It’s a careful observation. Your eyes are clear and defined. Every part of a scene is dissected bit by bit. You discover small details that go against your first thoughts – a landscape, lively; a party, serene; a smile, ominous; and a skeleton, innocent. Separately, you notice all that you can from a scene, but with both, you gain what you need from a scene.
